Dylan James Nikich creates large-scale abstract paintings that live at the threshold — the moment something falls apart, and something new begins.

 

His practice was reborn in 2019 and regenerated in 2024, shaped by travel, distance, and a steady return to what feels real. He paints to return to presence — to that point where control softens and something more honest can come through.

 

The works resist fixed meaning. They shift with light, time, and perception, meeting the viewer differently as they return. Not paintings to “understand” once, but pieces to live with — and feel opening over time.

 

For Nikich, painting is a portal: an invitation into transformation, into what sits beneath the visible, and into what emerges in both the work and the self.
